The Challenge Ahead
The ProTREE project is working with Kakute Ltd. to
refine the stove and field-test it to ensure compatibility with local
usage patterns. Our Tanzania based nursery is working with the UN Global
Environmental Facility (GEF) East Africa Cross Border Biodiversity Project
to optimize Jatropha propagation and cultivation practices.
The idea that people can grow their own fuel without compromising crop
production, extract the oil in their own villages, and use it in inexpensive
locally made stoves and lamps is generating a lot of excitement. We are
already receiving requests for our assistance with introducing the Jatropha
oil system into other regions, and we haven’t even finalized it
yet! We have a lot of work ahead of us to keep up with demand for this
simple, but revolutionary energy system.
